James O. and Marie S. Mason
James O. Mason, 70, Farmington 10th Ward, Farmington Utah North Stake, called as president of the Bountiful Utah Temple, succeeding President F. David Stanley. President Mason's wife, Marie Smith Mason, will serve as temple matron. President Mason was called to serve as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy from April 1994 to October 2000. He served for several years in area presidency assignments in Africa, including president of the Africa West Area. He has also served as a counselor in the North America East Area. His Church service also includes serving as a member of the Young Men General Board, regional representative, stake president, bishop, and high councilor. President Mason is retired from the U.S. Public Health Services and Centers for Disease Control where he served as a U.S. delegate to the World Health Organization. He earned a bachelor's degree and a doctorate of medicine at the University of Utah. He received a master's and doctorate of public health from Harvard University. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ambrose Stanton and Neoma Thorup Mason.
Sister Mason has served as a Relief Society, Young Women and Primary president, and as a member of a Relief Society presidency and a stake Relief Society board. She has taught seminary, gospel doctrine and other auxiliary classes. She attended the University of Utah. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Nathaniel Aikens and Lydia Heiniger Smith.
