75 young adults plant trees, shrubs

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Some 75 young adults from throughout the Tri-Cities area planted trees and shrubs in Columbia Park April 14 during a service project sponsored by the Richland Washington Stake and Kennewick Parks and Recreation. Armed with garden rakes, gloves, shovels and heavy duty wheelbarrows, the young adults planted 20 trees and 10 shrubs, installed 480 feet of edging, spread 160 cubic yards of river rock and raked and seeded grass on 1.5 acres.

Cindy Cole, City of Kennewick Facility and Grounds manager, said the project was far-reaching. "What these young adults did, besides enhancing and beautifying the community, was leave a lasting legacy. They will be able to return with their families in 20 years and see the fruition of their labors when the trees they planted will be full-grown."
