SANDY, Utah Vandals caused more than $100,000 damage to a Church meetinghouse in the Sandy Utah East Stake May 26. Local police called the destruction the worst vandalism in a church they have ever seen.
"My reaction is sadness and frustration," stake President Barry Newbold said. "I'm sad for all the people who are displaced, frustrated for such a senseless act."
According to the Associated Press, paint was splashed on the walls, ceiling and carpet of the Relief Society room. Pianos, file cabinets and a refrigerator were turned over.
"I have never seen vandalism like this before," police Sgt. Kevin Thacker said. Investigators said there was no evidence to suggest it was a hate crime.
