From around the world: New branch wins parade trophy

POWHATAN, VA. — The newly created Powhatan Branch of the Richmond Virginia Chesterfield Stake won the "Best Religious Float" in the annual Powhatan Labor Day Parade.

"Our main purpose in sponsoring the float was to increase public awareness of our Church so that by the time our new meetinghouse is completed in 2003, the community will have a better understanding of who we are," said branch president Robert Goodman. "We also expect the increased visibility will assist missionary efforts."

The theme of the float was "Families — the Heart of America." On the float, each auxiliary was represented with banners and balloons, and Church members, all on the back of a large semitrailer.
