Exhorting children to "show you know," Primary General President Coleen K. Menlove told them, "You are a child of God," and reminded them "Jesus Christ set the example for us of how to live worthy so that we may return to the presence of our Heavenly Father."
Speaking at the Primary satellite broadcast Feb. 8, she said: "We show we know how to follow Him by making and keeping baptismal covenants and by receiving and listening to the Holy Ghost. We show we know how to follow Him each time we worthily partake of the sacrament and remember Jesus. I want to talk about another way we show we know by keeping the commandments."
Sister Menlove then gave examples of children who kept commandments, including 10-year-old John who told his swimming team coach he would not compete on Sunday. "John shows he knows by keeping the Sabbath Day holy and setting an example of someone who follows the teachings of Jesus. Every time you keep the Sabbath Day holy, you show you know."
She also related how when she was 11 years old, she was offered a cigarette by a friend. "I didn't want to offend her, but I had decided when I was very young that I would never smoke. This decision made it easier to say no. Show you know by obeying the Word of Wisdom."
Another young girl, 6-year-old Caitlin, dropped out of a dance recital because her dance teacher would not allow her to wear a more modest costume. And 8-year-old Chelsea told a friend it was OK that another boy was not a member of the Church, that he was still a good person. "We show we know how to follow the Savior when we treat others with kindness and respect."
"We show we know by living the commandment to love one another," Sister Menlove said. She also spoke of showing love within families. "You, too, can show you know by keeping these and other commandments.
"Make a decision today," she said in her closing remarks, "to show you know by following Jesus Christ in faith."
