Elkton honors youth

ELKTON, Md. — Youth of the Wilmington Delaware Stake were honored Jan. 22 by the mayor of Elkton during a town meeting for a public service project completed as part of youth conference in July 2002. A proclamation that included the names of all the youth who participated was read during the meeting.

About 200 youth from the stake joined in beautifying various historical sites surrounding the Delaware and Maryland borders.

This award recognizes work done at a historical site named "Elk Landing," a battle site during the Revolutionary War. Youth removed overgrown shrubs and weeds and painted various structures.

Officials at the historic site were impressed by the amount of work accomplished, as well as the character of the youth who worked diligently for three days with a positive attitude without complaining — despite the heat and humidity.

Youth who worked at other sites also received similar recognition.
