A new, slightly revised "My Gospel Standards" poster is available at Church distribution centers. The new poster, with enhanced graphics, focuses on Heavenly Father's plan and how to follow that plan, say members of the Primary general presidency.
"'My Gospel Standards' begins and ends with an understanding of our Heavenly Father's plan of happiness and His desire for us to return to His presence as an eternal family," said Primary General President Coleen K. Menlove. "All of the standards are commitments to live worthy each day in order to receive the blessings of eternal life with our family. Making the choice to live these standards will bring peace to our hearts."
The new poster helps "children understand what they can be doing now to prepare to go to the temple of the Lord," said Sydney S. Reynolds, first counselor in the Primary general presidency. "The temple itself provides the background for the new poster. The standards, which represent for children what the 'For the Strength of Youth' pamphlet details for youth, are written in child-friendly language and are easy to understand for the youngest Primary child."
"My Gospel Standards" begins with the statement, "I will follow Heavenly Father's plan for me," which was the closing statement on the previous poster. The new poster then leads right into the baptismal covenant and choosing the right.
"It feels a little like the Ten Commandments in a way," Sister Reynolds said, in that the other statements refer to using the names of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ reverently, keeping the Sabbath holy, honoring parents and living a moral life.
The last statement, adding a dimension on the family to the poster, reads: "I will live now to be worthy to go to the temple and do my part to have an eternal family."
"The family is so important and from the time they are little, children realize they can contribute to their own families and they will have an opportunity to have an eternal family someday," said Sister Reynolds.
And that is part of Heavenly Father's plan for children to be a part of and one day have their own eternal families, she added.
In addition, as in the previous poster, the new poster has a box at the bottom which reads: "I am a child of God. I know Heavenly Father loves me, and I love Him. I can pray to Heavenly Father anytime, anywhere. I am trying to remember and follow Jesus Christ."
The only difference between the old and new boxes is the word "remember" in referring to the Savior.
Sister Reynolds explained that the poster is for children of all ages, but those who are 8 years old will be learning more about the standards as they get into their new "Faith in God" guidebooks. "In the upcoming years, some of the activities for Primary Activity Days will be based on 'My Gospel Standards' and they are often used to reinforce themes in Sharing Time," she added.
"The poster is beautiful and the Primary presidency would love to have each child have a copy on his or her wall or closet door, but most important, we would love to have each child have these standards in his or her heart. Children are so very capable and represent the future of the Church and the nations in which they live. Living these standards will bring them happiness and peace and provide a guide for their lives."
The new "My Gospel Standards" poster can be purchased for 20 cents U.S., and comparable prices internationally, at distribution centers.
