New temple presidents

Jerry Valient Kirk, 70, Irvington Ward, Fremont California Stake; called as president of the new Aba Nigeria Temple. President Kirk's wife, JoAnne Olson Kirk, will serve as temple matron. A sealer and ordinance worker in the Oakland California Temple, President Kirk has served as president of the Nigeria Port Harcourt Mission, stake president, bishop and missionary in the Nigeria Lagos Mission. He is a retired aerospace engineer, but still works part-time as a general contractor. He was born in Goshen, Utah, to Leonard and Fern W. Kirk.

Sister Kirk, who served with her husband when he was a mission president, is a temple ordinance worker. She is a former ward Relief Society and Primary president and family history consultant. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Axel B. and Edla Hedin Olson.

Gilbert Ivar Sandberg, 60, Mariana Butte Ward, Loveland Colorado Stake; called as president of the Guatemala City Guatemala Temple. President Sandberg's wife, Michelle Hatch Sandberg, will serve as temple matron. A counselor in the Guatemala City Guatemala Temple presidency, President Sandberg is a former stake president, high councilor, bishop, bishop's counselor and ward Young Men president. He retired from Hewlett Packard. He was born in Gettysburg, S.D., to Karl Ivar and Mildred Elizabeth Nelson Sandberg.

Sister Sandberg serves as assistant to the matron. She is a former stake and ward Relief Society president and counselor, ward Primary president and counselor and seminary teacher. She was born in Colonia Dublan, Mexico, to Ernest LeRoy and Marza Lunt Hatch.
