But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause, and send down justice upon those who seek your destruction.
O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads and receive the pleasing word of God, and feast upon his love; for ye may, if your minds are firm, forever. Jacob 3: 1-2
One Friday evening, after already riding our tandem bicycle for 45 miles, my husband and I had an unfortunate ending to our ride.
A new road shoulder project was underway and my husband didn't realize the asphalt ended and gravel began. Seeing no other options, my husband laid the bike over. He broke three ribs, his collarbone and scapula in two places. I sustained muscle, tendon and ligament damages.
After three weeks on the couch, despair was setting in as I thought about incoming medical bills, unfinished home projects, preparing our son to leave in six weeks for his mission. After a prayer full of tears, I opened my Book of Mormon and read Jacob 3:1-2. I knew what I had to do and I knew Heavenly Father would help us through all the financial and physical demands. I also knew His love was real because over the previous three weeks, love poured into our home from family, friends, neighbors, ward members, and especially our four children and foreign exchange daughter.
