Scriptures on CD-ROM upgraded

New release combines two editions on one disc

A new version of the Standard Works on computer has been released by the Church, this one incorporating seven additional languages as well as a number of new features, including the ability to bookmark pages, highlight passages and add marginal notes.

The Scriptures: CD-ROM Edition 1.0 was released in 2001 on two discs: One was the "Standard Edition," and the other the "Resource Edition."

The new release, 1.1, incorporates both editions on a single disc. The standard edition is conducive to more casual reading, while the resource edition lends itself to a deeper study of the scriptures.

Both versions provide the full text of the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price in 12 languages and the Bible in English. The languages for the Triple Combination, in addition to English, are Cebuano, Finnish, French, German, Ilokano, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish and Tagalog. Also in these languages are the Guide to the Scriptures, chapter headings and footnotes, selections from the Joseph Smith Translation and maps and photographs.

The Resource edition provides the Old Testament text in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek. And comparable text in up to eight languages may be displayed on the screen at once.

A useful feature common to both editions is that the user may click with a mouse on a single word and at once see a list of passages in the Standard Works where the same word appears.

A series of audio-visual "lessons" helps users of both editions to become acquainted with their features.

The Scriptures: CD-ROM Edition 1.1 (item no. 50315) may be purchased at Church distribution centers or ordered online at www.ldscatalog.com. Those in the United States and Canada may order by phone by calling 1-800-537-5971.
