New Visitors Center directors

The First Presidency has announced the calling of seven new Visitors Center and Historic Site directors. The new leaders and their wives will begin service in January 2007.

Norman Lee Butterfield, 58, Park City Family Tree Center; River 8th Ward, West Jordan Utah River Stake; stake Young Men president; former stake president, bishop, elders quorum president, Scoutmaster and missionary in the Cumorah Mission. Retired assistant director of human resources, Ballard Medical Products. Born in Murray, Utah, to Ross Willard and Marjorie Nell Williams Butterfield. Married Pauline Thelma Hintze, four children.

A gospel doctrine teacher and patriarch scribe, Sister Butterfield is a former stake Young Women president, ward Primary president, ward Relief Society president, and counselor in ward Relief Society and Young Women presidencies. Born in Murray, Utah, to Henry Sears and Thelma Elizabeth Korous Hintze.

William Harold Child, 74, Washington DC Temple Visitors Center; Cottonwood 14th Ward, Salt Lake Big Cottonwood Stake; high councilor; former counselor in a bishopric, counselor in branch presidencies, ward Sunday School president and gospel doctrine teacher. Retired chief executive officer of R.C. Willey Home Furnishings. Born in Ogden, Utah, to Mark Fay and Elda Viola Child. Married Patricia Ann Wright, eight children.

A counselor in the ward Relief Society presidency, Sister Child is a former ward Relief Society president and teacher, counselor in a ward Primary presidency, Primary pianist and ward choir director. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Earl Leonard and Anna Laura Neilson Wright.

Paul Lawrence Garvin, 66, Mexico City Temple Visitors Center; Mount Vernon Ward, Cedar Rapids Iowa Stake; patriarch; former stake president, bishop, branch president, stake mission president and missionary in the Mexico Mission. Retired professor of geology, Cornell. Born in Pocatello, Idaho, to Joseph Woodard and Shirley Later Garvin. Married Ellen Rigby, two children.

Richard West Jacobs, 66, Laie Hawaii Temple Visitors Center; Foothill 1st Ward, Logan Utah East Stake; stake and ward Family History director; former bishop and counselor, regional executive secretary, stake mission president, high councilor and missionary in the Canadian Mission. Director of budget analysis, Utah State University. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, to Lyman Hinman and Ethel West Jacobs. Married Diane Gibson, eight children.

President of Blackburn Jones Co. Born in Provo, Utah, to Earl Edward and Alene Holdaway Jones. Married Dixie Rae Burnett, three children.

David Michael Stewart, 67, Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission; Emigration 6th Ward, Salt Lake Emigration Stake; high priests group leader and temple ordinance worker; former president of the Germany Frankfurt Mission, counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, bishop and missionary in the Swiss-Austrian Mission. Professor/consultant, State Leagues of Cities. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Harold Fitzgerald and Abbie Lorraine Sermon Stewart. Married Betty Louise Sine, seven children.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ira Franklin (Jerry) and Dorothea Anna Popp Sine.

Gerald Winters Tedrow, 65, Liberty Jail Historic Site; Highland 8th Ward, Highland Utah Stake; high priest group leader; former counselor in stake and ward Sunday School presidencies, ward mission leader, bishop, high councilor and missionary in the British Mission. Retired executive director of Western Petroleum Marketers Association. Born in Pueblo, Colo., to Ralph S. and Bernice Louise Winters Tedrow. Married Ina Lee Baadsgaard, five children.
