New temple president

Eric B. Shumway, 67, Laie 2nd Ward, Laie Hawaii Stake; called as president of the Nuku'alofa Tonga Temple. Elder Shumway's wife, Carolyn Merrill Shumway, will serve as temple matron. Elder Shumway, an Area Seventy in the North America West Area, has served as president of the Tonga Nuku'alofa Mission, stake president, high councilor, bishop and missionary. He is president of Brigham Young University-Hawaii. He was born in Holbrook, Ariz., to James Carroll and Merle Kartchner Shumway.

Sister Shumway, who served with her husband when he was mission president, has served as a stake music chairman, Young Women president, Relief Society president's counselor, Sunday School teacher, member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and full-time missionary. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Douglas and Regina Weaver Merrill. Elder and Sister Shumway are the parents of seven children.
