Students clean up hospital grounds

KAHUKU, HAWAII

Students and Church leaders from the BYU-Hawaii 1st Stake gathered recently on the grounds of a local hospital and spent the day removing debris and trees recently killed by an immigrant infestation of wasps, and trimming trees and shrubs. Some 200 young people worked throughout the grounds of Kahuku Hospital during the Nov. 17 project.

Rodney Au, hospital plant operation manager, said, "The hospital covers most of the North Shore and it needed a lot of cleanup."

Stephany Vaioleti, interim administrator at the hospital, said, "We thank everyone for coming out. We know that there are a lot of opportunities you could have chosen so we're grateful you chose Kahuku Hospital. With the bankruptcy and as we transition with the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), we look forward to developing a strategic plan with input from the community. Kahuku Hospital appreciates the giving of your time and energy and we hope you will visit us when you need medical attention."
