New mission presidents

Seven mission presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency to begin their service about July 1. Their mission assignments will be announced later.

Richard Allen Baldwin Jr., 60, Pleasant 3rd Ward, Chandler Arizona West Stake; former stake president, high councilor, bishop and counselor, ward mission leader, elders quorum president and missionary in the Argentina North Mission. Chief Operating Officer, Mobile Medical International Corp. Born in San Antonio, Texas, to Richard Allen and Doris Virginia Howard Baldwin. Married Cheryl Sue Adamson, three children.

A gospel doctrine teacher, Sister Baldwin is a former counselor in a stake Young Women presidency, ward Young Women president, stake public affairs director, seminary teacher and ward Relief Society teacher. Born in Champaign, Ill., to Kenneth Paul and Lillian Darlene Ercanbrack Adamson.

Douglas Leon Dance, 50, Midway 5th Ward, Midway Utah Stake; former counselor in the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission presidency, high councilor, stake mission president and missionary, bishop and missionary in the Japan Sapporo Mission. Principal, Wasatch Mountain Development. Born in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Leon Doyle and Barbara Jean Cole Dance. Married Nancy Kieko Pilkington, three children.

A ward Relief Society teacher, Sister Dance is a former ward Relief Society president, counselor in ward Primary and Young Women presidencies, seminary and institute teacher and gospel doctrine teacher. Born in Tokyo, Japan, to Walter Farrell and Joan Berntson Pilkington.

Gary Gail Ely, 60, Saltese Ward, Spokane Washington Valley Stake; stake president; former counselor in a stake presidency, bishop and counselor, high councilor and ward mission leader. Chairman and chief executive officer, Avista Corporation. Born in Spokane, Wash., to Morris B and Marie Ann Losell Ely. Married Phyllis Melott Smith, six children.

A ward Relief Society teacher, Sister Ely is a former ward Relief Society and Primary president, counselor in a ward Young Women presidency, stake missionary and stake newsletter editor. Born in Spokane, Wash., to Phil S and Peggy Ackley Smith.

Mark James Howard, 65, Cimarron Ward, Las Vegas Nevada Redrock Stake; temple ordinance worker and high councilor; former stake president, bishop, ward mission leader, ward Young Men president and missionary in the Southern Far East Mission. Chief executive officer and president, Mountain View Hospital. Born in Malad, Idaho, to William Oliver and Mildred Jones Howard. Married Deborah Gilgen, four children.

Michael Edward May, 51, Stonewood 1st Ward, Orem Utah Stonewood Stake; bishop; former counselor in the California San Fernando Mission presidency, ward Young Men president, high councilor, ward mission leader and missionary in the Bolivia Santa Cruz Mission. Assistant principal, Alpine School District. Born in Canandaigua, N.Y., to Harold Dominic and Teresa Elizabeth McCulle May. Married Carol Leslie Glazier, five children.

John Martin Neil, 62, Los Altos Ward, Los Altos California Stake; bishop; former bishop and counselor, high councilor, ward Young Men president and missionary in the Swiss and Italian Missions. Director of business development, Agilent Technologies. Born in Astoria, Ore., to John Wesley and Elsa Bergliot Hundere Neil. Married Elizabeth Hall, four children.

A ward family relations teacher, Sister Neil is a former ward Relief Society president, ward choir director and stake music chair. Born in Schenectady, N.Y., to Howard Tracy Sr. and Ida Rose Langford Hall.

David Jaime Torres, 55, Millrace (Spanish) Branch, Taylorsville Utah Stake; former bishop and counselor, branch president, high councilor, ward Young Men president, Elders quorum president and missionary in the Central America Mission. Educator and member of the Board of Directors of the Utah Education Association. Born in Washington D.C., to Elias Rivera and Luz Rodriguez Torres. Married Maria Luisa Quesada, five children.
