New mission presidents

Seven mission presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin service about July 1.

Herbert Edgardo Alvarado, 50, Guatemala Guatemala City South Mission; Merliot Ward, San Salvador El Salvador La Libertad Stake; public affairs director and counselor in the El Salvador San Salvador West/Belize Mission presidency; former stake president, bishop, high councilor, stake clerk and missionary in the El Salvador San Salvador Mission. Coordinator, CES. Born in San Salvador, El Salvador, to Andres and Estebana Renderos Alvarado. Married Elena Del Transito Bonilla Aviles, three children.

A district Relief Society adviser, Sister Alvarado is a former counselor in a stake Primary presidency, ward Primary and Young Women president and ward Relief Society teacher. Born in San Salvador, El Salvador, to Fidel Alejandro Bonilla Chorro and Laura Julia Aviles Figueroa Bonilla.

Peter Kevin Christensen, 52, Nevada Las Vegas Mission; Green Mountain 2nd Ward, Lakewood Colorado Stake; stake president; former bishop and counselor, high councilor, ward Young Men president and missionary in the Canada Calgary Mission. President/Chief Executive Officer, Prime Performance, Inc. Born in Whittier, Calif., to Wilford Boyd and Betty Jean Chandler Christensen. Married Toby Elizabeth Sarager, five children.

A ward Young Women personal progress leader, Sister Christensen is a former counselor in ward Relief Society and Young Women presidencies, ward Relief Society teacher and Scout advancement chair. Born in Phoenix, Ariz., to John Ensign and Marjorie Fain Sarager.

Parke Hansen, 55, Philippines Cebu Mission; Arbor View Ward, Las Vegas Nevada Tule Springs Stake; counselor in the stake presidency; former bishop, high councilor, stake mission presidency, ward young men president, ward mission leader and missionary in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission. Educator, Clark County School District. Born in American Fork, Utah, to Darrel Peter and Anna Jean Bolton Hansen. Married Barbara Hubbard, five children.

Gary Lynn Hutchings, 52, Tennessee Nashville Mission; Traverse Mountain 3rd Ward, Lehi Utah Traverse Mountain Stake; ward mission leader; former counselor in the California Ventura Mission presidency, bishop, stake Young Men president, high councilor and missionary in the Canada Toronto Mission. Jairus Cinco Perez, 40, Philippines Davao Mission; Mandaue 1st Ward, Mandaue Philippines Stake; stake Sunday School president; former stake president, bishop and counselor, high councilor and ward Sunday School teacher. Multi-Language supervisor for the Church. Born in Cebu City, Philippines, to Ezequiel Panal and Eusebia Cadampog Cinco Perez. Married Jennipher Anino Ramirez, three children.

Scott Warren Pickett, 53, Brazil Rio de Janeiro North Mission; Parleys 3rd Ward, Salt Lake Parleys Stake; missionary preparation teacher; former bishop and counselor, ward Young Men president, elders quorum president and missionary in the Brazil Sao Paulo South Mission. Professor, University of Utah and retired managing partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lloyd Knight and Geneil Monson Pickett. Married Nanci Oldroyd, two children.

Sister Pickett served with her husband as a missionary in the the Church's Addiction Recovery Program and is a former stake Relief Society president and counselor, ward Primary president and counselor in a ward Relief Society presidency. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Grant D. and Ann Marie Memmott Oldroyd.

Byron Lindsey Smith, 65, Ghana Accra Mission; Parkway 2nd Ward, South Jordan Utah Parkway Stake; executive secretary in the Africa West Area; former counselor in the Nashville Tennessee Temple presidency, sealer, stake president, bishop, elders quorum president and missionary in the North Central States Mission. Retired area manager, TruGreen Chemlawn. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Joseph Byron Gold and Myrle Lindsey Smith. Married Bonnie Jean Tingey, five children.
