Sitting in the President's Room of the Church's Relief Society Building in front of local television and print media, Sister Rosemary M. Wixom — newly sustained Primary general president — expressed gratitude for the opportunity to "serve the Lord while loving His children."
"There are only two requirements for this calling — that is to love the Lord and to love children, and we do," said Sister Wixom.
Sister Wixom and her counselors — Sister Jean A. Stevens and Sister Cheryl A. Esplin — were sustained in the Saturday afternoon session of the Church's 180th Annual General Conference to oversee the support of more than 1 million Primary children in more than 170 countries around the world.
They replace Sister Cheryl C. Lant, Sister Margaret S. Lifferth and Sister Vicki F. Matsumori who were released and received an expression of gratitude for their five years of leadership.
"As a primary presidency our role is to assist the families in helping their children to live the gospel of Jesus Christ," said Sister Wixom during the press conference.
