Site for Meridian Idaho Temple announced

The site for the Meridian Idaho Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been selected. The new temple will be constructed at 7345 North Linder Road, a few blocks north of the intersection of North Linder Road and Chinden Blvd.

“Meridian has a large faith community which plays an important role in keeping a strong focus on our families,” said Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd. “The announcement from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to build their newest temple in Meridian is welcomed and we will do our part to ensure their needs are met.”

The Meridian Temple was announced at a General Conference of the Church in April, 2011. The Church now has 166 temples in operation, announced or under construction across the globe. The Meridian Idaho Temple is the fifth in Idaho, with other temples in Boise, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls and Rexburg.

“We feel this new temple will be a great asset not only to members of the Church but also to the people of the surrounding community, who will benefit from the peace and beauty a temple brings.” said Craig Rasmussen, Idaho spokesman for the Church. “Temples are where members participate in the highest sacraments of our faith—where we make and renew promises to God and to our families.”

Once construction of the new temple begins it is expected to take approximately two years to complete.
