"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." — John 14:27
"In the raucous world in which we live, the din of traffic, the blaring commercials of the media, and the sheer demands placed on our time — to say nothing of the problems of the world — cause headache, inflict pain, and sap our strength to cope. The burden of sickness or the grief of mourning a loved one departed brings us to our knees seeking heavenly help. ... His gift is bestowed individually: 'Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him' (Rev. 3:30)." — President Thomas S. Monson, "Gifts," April 1993 general conference
My eagerness to pursue an education became more intense after attending training at the Academy for Creating Enterprise in 2002. The ACE experience gave me a stronger determination to finish schooling.
The PEF program gave me hope. My application for a loan was approved. In September 2005, I was able to enroll at St. Paul University Philippines, where I needed to complete 18 class credits to earn my bachelor of science degree in business administration, with an emphasis in marketing. I finished all the requirements in one semester and graduated in March 2006.
Shortly after graduation, I was called to preside over a branch in Peñablanca.
While studying, I had a job with a copier company, working as the marketing manager to a provincial dealer in Tuguegarao. In 2007, I was offered a part-time teaching job at the International School of Asia and the Pacific, where my wife also works as a full-time clinical instructor.
A year later, in 2008, I resigned from the copier company. My wife and I then opened a business in Tuguegarao City selling and repairing computers. Simultaneously, we opened a business in janitorial and custodial supplies. We were blessed because of the wonderful PEF program. I was able to fully repay the loan in February 2011.
It is my humble testimony that our lives will be enriched as we seek learning and education to help improve our living conditions, and keeping His commandments will be our guide.
President Gordon B. Hinckley often admonished us to seek as much education as we can. I am a living legacy of the wisdom behind that counsel. I encourage each young man and young woman to pursue an education so they will be able to serve others more.
On behalf of my family, I wish to express our deepest gratitude for the PEF program. Thank you to the donors. I am looking forward to the day that I can also share our means with the program.
