The early Christmas season on Temple Square will have a decidedly Latin flavor this year.
The Church will present a Latino Christmas concert entitled “Luz de las Naciones: Ven a Mi Casa esta Navidad” (Light of the nations: Come to my house this Christmas).
The concert will be staged in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on Temple Square on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5, 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinée performance on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m.
You don’t have to hail from a Latin American nation or even speak a word of Spanish to enjoy the program. The general public is invited.
“Luz de las Naciones” will celebrate the rich traditions of Latin America through music and dance. The program will include an adult choir along with a children’s choir accompanied by musicians playing traditional Latino instruments.
Dances from a variety of countries will highlight the evening.
The presentation will be in Spanish — although there will be a limited number of headsets available on a first come, first served basis for guests who speak English or Portuguese.
The Latino Christmas concert continues the Church’s annual practice of sponsoring some sort of event on Temple Square. Programs in years past have ranged from reverent devotionals to colorful cultural festivals.
As always, members are encouraged to bring friends and relatives. The program can also be used as a great member-missionary opportunity.
For evening performances, the Tabernacle will open at 6:30 for seating. Plan to arrive early to allow adequate time to pass through security.
Tickets can be obtained online at lds.org/events and at the Conference Center ticket office by calling 801-570-0080 (locally) or 1-866-LDS-TIKS (toll free). Tickets are free of charge.
Public parking lots will be available in downtown Salt Lake City. However, the Conference Center parking lot will not be available.
