New stake presidencies: James Melvin Hunt

Two new stakes – in Peru and California – have been created. Elder Charles Didier of the Seventy created the Canto Grande Peru Stake, which has a membership 2,567 in the Bayover, Canto Grande, Los Manzanos, Via Flores, and Via Hermosa wards and the Wiese Branch.

Elder Boyd K. Packer of the Council of the Twelve organized the Del Mar California Stake. With a membership of 2,005, the new stake consists of the Cardiff 1st and 2nd ward, the Del Mar 1st and 2nd wards, and the Encinitas 1st Ward.Elsewhere, stakes were reorganized in Brazilia and Sao Vicente, Brazil; Cordoba, Argentina; Houston, Texas; Lima, Peru; Los Angeles and San Francisco, Calif.; Maidstone and Portsmouth, England; Redmond, Wash.; Poza Rica, and Victoria, Mexico; Orem, Utah; and Valparaiso, Chile.

Counselors – Willard Morgan Hirschi, 55, BYU head track coach, former high councilor, bishop and counselor, and elders quorum president, married Barbara Jo Johnson; David Rawlings Barlow, 45, self-employed, former high councilor, stake clerk, bishop, high priests group leader, Young Men president, and Scoutmaster, married Marilyn Glazier.
