Temples in Almanac listed alphabetically

The alphabetical listing of temples in the Deseret News 1991-1992 Church Almanac is one more evidence of the worldwide growth of the Church.

Temples were first listed in the Church Almanac in the 1977 edition.Long narratives about the design and construction of each temple were included until 1982, when they were abbreviated to make room for the multiple temple announcements of 1980 and 1981.

But the tradition of chronological listing continued as more temples were added and the number doubled. But somewhere between 1983 and 1986 when 20 new temples were dedicated, members began to ask for an easier way to find information on the temples.

The chronological list was outdated but traditions die slowly. Not until the Deseret News 1991-1992 Church Almanac were temples alphabetized.
