Public can tour Vernal Tabernacle and temple-to-be

Tours of the historic tabernacle in Vernal, Utah – which will be renovated and converted for use as the Vernal Utah Temple – are being offered at a public open house April 29-May 2, said Pres. Laird M. Hartman of the Vernal Utah Glines Stake.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., except on Sunday, when tours will be conducted from 4 to 9 p.m."This will give people the opportunity to see the whole tabernacle before the renovation begins," Pres. Hartman explained. "For many years, the only baptismal font in this whole area was in the tabernacle, and hundreds of people were baptized in it."

The tabernacle was dedicated in 1907 by President Joseph F. Smith.

Pres. Hartman said an amazing number of people have indicated an interest in touring the building, and 400 have volunteered to serve as tour guides.
