King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV of Tonga greeted each member of the Ricks College "Extravadance" performing tour group and posed for pictures following a private performance for His Majesty last month.
"It is an honor for the Church for the king to take the time to greet each performer and to consent to a picture," said Norman Harris, a representative of Tonga Nuku'alofa Mission Pres. Samisoni Uasila'a.The king met privately with tour leaders following the tour group's performance. He then shook hands with each of the 36 students before moving to the lawn area in front of Victoriana, the royal palace in Nuku'alofa, for the picture.
Throughout the 1 1/2-hour show, the king displayed his pleasure for the performance by having two aides repeat his words in a loud manner. The king also voiced his approval of the performance privately, Brother Harris added.
In addition to the performance for the king, "Extrava-dance" also performed for the general population of the islands at Pangai Park, adjacent to the palace. Some 10,000 attended the two performances.
