Church News: Deaths

  • Johan Paul Jongkees, 78, first president of the Holland Stake (now The Hague Netherlands Stake), who served from when the stake was organized March 12, 1961, until September 1971, died Dec. 31, 1998. Pres. Jongkees also served as a mission president’s counselor, branch president, regional representative, patriarch, and as president of the London Temple, from 1978-1982. His wife, Gwendoline Rose Jongkees, served as temple matron.
  • Madge K. Reeves, 83, matron of the Los Angeles Temple from 1989-1992, died Dec. 26, 1998, in Provo, Utah. She served as assistant matron from 1982-1989, and also served with her husband, Wayne, as missionaries at the Washington Temple Visitors Center from 1978-1981.
