New temple president

Larry R. Oler, 69, Ka'u Ward, Hilo Hawaii Stake, called as president of the new Kona Hawaii Temple, which will be dedicated Jan. 23-24. Pres. Oler's wife, Midge Jonnita Lanihuliokauaha'ro Oler, will serve as temple matron. Pres. Oler served as temple sealer, mission president's counselor, stake president and counselor, bishop and counselor. A retired university and high school administrator and teacher, he received a bachelor's degree from BYU, master's degree in education from the University of Utah, and a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California. He was born in Stirling, Alberta, to Donald John and Mary Ellen Young Oler. Sister Oler is a temple ordinance worker and former counselor in stake Relief Society and Young Women presidencies, ward Young Women president and choir director. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to John Colefield and Matilda Kanoelani Vida Thompson.
