Avoid destruction by worshipping God

Wherefore, he will preserve the righteous by his power, even if it so be that the fulness of his wrath must come, and the righteous be preserved, even unto the destruction of their enemies by fire. Wherefore, the righteous need not fear; for thus saith the prophet, they shall be saved, even if it so be as by fire. — 1 Ne. 22:17

"No nation which has kept the commandments of God has ever perished, but I say to you that once freedom is lost, only blood — human blood will win it back," said President Ezra Taft Benson at the October 1979 general conference.

There are things, he declared, that can be done if a holocaust of destruction is to be staved off. The first, he said, is to return to a worship of God.

President Benson said: "He has promised that the righteous will be preserved by His power. (See 1 Ne. 22:17.) But we must keep the commandments of God. We must pay our tithes and offerings, keep the Sabbath day a holy day, stay morally clean, be honest in all our dealings, and have our family and personal prayers. We must live the gospel."
