BORDEAUX-EYSINES, France — Members of the Bordeaux-Eysines Ward provided the largest group of volunteers during a recent community service activity in the town of Eysines. The project, "Clean Up Our Environment," was instigated by the national association of Youth for Nature, and sponsored by a national supermarket chain on Sept. 30th.
The clean up was organized across France with the two-fold purpose of removing litter from public grounds and providing an educational experience for the youth of the country. Each participating group selected an area of the town or surrounding countryside they desired to improve.
Members of the Eysines Ward selected a heavily traveled route which was littered with trash. Their efforts filled more than 60 large garbage bags as well as two truckloads of bulkier items, such as tires, broken furniture and scrap iron.
Bishop Alain Boulie noted the feelings of satisfaction felt by ward members, and paid tribute to the youth who worked with enthusiasm.
