Math whiz receives medal

MESA, Ariz. — Karen Alder, 11, of the Greenfield Ward, Mesa Arizona Mountain View Stake, was one of 25 students worldwide to record a perfect score in the 2001-2002 Mathematical Olympiad. The competition, which included 135,000 elementary and middle school students, consisted of five separate tests administered throughout the school year.

Schools entered teams in the competition, but the Dr. George Lenchner Award, a bronze medal, was presented to individuals, including Karen, who recorded perfect scores in all of the tests.
