JACKSON, Tennessee — With two family history workshops for the community, the Jackson Ward, Memphis Tennessee Stake, recently has enjoyed success. Bennie Denton, who is a family history enthusiast, organized the workshops.
After securing advertising and setting up interviews with local media for himself and other family history workers, the meetinghouse chapel was filled with people who came to learn how to connect with their ancestors.
The first workshop was on Internet use for family history research. The second one focused on the recently released Freedman Bank records which help African-Americans find information regarding their ancestors who were in slavery.
