And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels around about you, to bear you up.
—Doctrine and Covenants 84:88
Therefore, verily I say unto you, lift up your voices unto this people; speak the thoughts that I shall put into your hearts, and you shall not be confounded before men;
For it shall be given you in the very hour, yea, in the very moment, what ye shall say.
— Doctrine and Covenants 100:5-6
When my husband retired we wanted to serve a mission but financially we were struggling to make ends meet. We prayed about what we needed to do in order to serve a mission. We were called to the LDS Substance Abuse Recovery Mission through Family Services. When I found out that I had to bear my testimony each day to people suffering with addictions, I told my husband that I could never do this. I am a convert to the Church and I never felt at ease standing in front of people to bear my testimony.
When we started our mission I was led to these two scriptures. I read them each day to remind me of what Heavenly Father promised if I was willing to do what He asked of me. These two years were the most amazing of my life.
I felt the Spirit guide me with every word I spoke at the recovery meetings. It was a spiritual journey for me to testify of Christ and to daily witness His atonement change people's lives right before my eyes. Because of His atonement we witnessed God's sons and daughters turn from the darkest abyss to the temple. It is truly a miracle.
Now we are serving a mission in the Washington D.C. Temple. Again, I have had to depend on these scriptures to help me.
I feel His Spirit guiding and upholding me and His angels surrounding me as I try to do His will. I thank Him for His great love in helping me overcome my fears. He is always with me when I do His will and His work.
