ST. GEORGE, Utah — The Church's Bishop's Storehouse and Welfare Center in St. George caught fire April 29, causing an estimated $100,000 damage. Fire officials said one-fifth of the roof collapsed onto canned goods in a storage house. Nobody was inside when the fire was reported about 8:12 p.m.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Kevin Taylor, deputy fire chief, said it appeared to be accidental. The 20,000-square-foot cannery has block walls and a lightweight, wood-frame truss roof. The 25-year-old building is being expanded to add storage, he said.
