OAKLAND, Calif. — Children's picture books, accompanied by tape recordings of the text, have been donated to the women and children of Afghanistan through the Oakland California Stake "Voices to Afghanistan" project. The donations are intended to help recipients learn English.
Members of the stake, with help from some other community organizations, donated the books as well as the time to record the books' texts on tape. So far, they have donated 800 books and tapes. The first hundred were delivered to Afghanistan last October by Richard Finch of the stake high council. The other 700 were recently shipped. Church members also donated the money to buy more than 50 tape players to accompany the books and tapes.
