KIEV, Ukraine — More than 40 returned missionaries were hosted by the Ukraine Kiev Mission in the first Young Single Adult Returned Missionary Conference on Sept. 1-2.
They came from across Ukraine by trains, buses and metro to learn how to meet the challenge of resuming their schooling or careers, while maintaining their Church callings, often without the support of family.
President William West of the Ukraine Kiev Mission greeted the young men and women, then offered the keynote address on "Continuing Spiritual Growth." They then attended classes on marriage, communication, education and vocation.
At noon, they boarded a bus to visit the famed statue of St. Volodymer the Baptizer, renowned in Ukrainian history as the one who led the nation to Christianity. President Vladimir Kanchenko of the Kiev Ukraine Stake, the first organized in eastern Europe, spoke of the dedication of the land and rehearsed parts of the prayer pronounced by President Boyd K. Packer, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve, given at this site.
After lunch on the bus, they visited the site of a future meetinghouse, the first to be built by the Church in Ukraine. Later that evening, they shared their testimonies and enjoyed a dinner and dance.
