One of the world's foremost organists, Stephen Cleobury, will perform an organ recital on the Conference Center organ, Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Cleobury has been fellow and director of music at King's College, Cambridge, since 1982.
Mr. Cleobury is also chief conductor of Britain's only full-time professional choir, the BBC Singers. Although conducting occupies most of his time now, he frequently records as a concert organist for Collins Classics and Priory Records, as well as the BBC.
The American Guild of Organists, Temple Square Performances and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir are jointly sponsoring the visit of Mr. Cleobury to the Conference Center. He is one of a select few who have been privileged to play the beautiful 7,708-pipe organ since its completion in April 2001.
In addition to his recital on Friday evening, Mr. Cleobury will be guest conductor during the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's weekly Sunday broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word at 9:30 a.m., Jan. 9, in the Conference Center.
Free tickets for the Friday evening, Jan. 7, recital are available by calling 1-801-240-0080, or at www.lds.org/events or by at the Temple Square Events Ticket Office on the west side of the Conference Center, door 4. Conference Center doors will open 90 minutes before the Friday evening organ recital and the Sunday morning broadcast. Tickets are not required for the Sunday morning broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word.
