HOBART, Tasmania — Michael Lampard, 18, of the Hobart Ward, Hobart Tasmania Stake, has been selected to perform as the lead in an opera to be staged in Rome, Italy. The young baritone was the recent winner of gold and silver medals in music competitions held in the Sydney Opera House. He will perform the role of Guglielmo in the Mozart Opera Cosi fan tutte, to be presented by the Opera Institute of Rome Festival. The two-hour opera is 370 pages long.
He has been taking singing lessons for 11 years. When interviewed on Australian national ABC television about the unusual opportunity, the Tasmanian said, "My voice is a gift from God."
