ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — Members of the Church and missionaries of the St. Petersburg Russia Mission participated in a citywide service day project on Oct. 15.
Valentina Matveenko, mayor of St. Petersburg, invited volunteers to beautify the city by clearing away fall leaves.
More than 70 members of the Church responded to the request by taking part in the clean up of the Summer Garden, one of the most beautiful parks in St. Petersburg. The Summer Garden holds a special place for members as a significant site in Church history in Russia.
Here, in 1903, Elder Francis M. Lyman, president of the European Mission and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve, dedicated Russia for the preaching of the gospel.
Cleaning and beautifying the Summer Garden has become a tradition for the mission.
Natalia Alekseevna Kuznetsova, who directed the clean-up, expressed her appreciation for work well done, and for the privilege of rendering such service.
