New CD features favorite hymns

Continuing its nearly three-year presence on the Billboard Classical chart, often with multiple releases in the Top 10, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has released its newest CD, "Then Sings My Soul," with newly arranged versions of many oft-requested hymns. The 360-member choir is accompanied by the 110-member Orchestra at Temple Square.

The collection features many of the most cherished hymns sung by people of many Christian congregations over the years.

"I think the singing of hymns is what our listening public enjoys the most," Craig Jessop, music director of the choir, said. "They especially love the great hymns that have come down through the centuries."

The 18-track album includes such timeless selections as the title track, "How Great Thou Art." Some of the hymns the choir has previously recorded are presented in the new album with fresh orchestral accompaniments. All of the hymns evoke feelings of worship and joy in the Almighty.

Featured hymns include "How Firm a Foundation," "Sunshine in My Soul," "The Lord Is My Shepherd," "O Divine Redeemer," "The Lord's Prayer" (Malotte), "Lead Kindly Light," and "Abide with Me; 'Tis Eventide."
