New visitor center directors

The First Presidency has announced five new visitor center directors. The new leaders and their wives will begin service in January 2007.

John Wesley Linebaugh, 68, San Diego (Calif.) Mormon Battalion Historic Site; Manila 1st Ward, Pleasant Grove Utah Manila Stake; former missionary at the San Diego Mormon Battalion Historic Site, Church service missionary, bishop, branch president, ward Young Men president and high councilor. Retired administrative laboratory director at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Born in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Burleigh Carleton and Reva Jense Linebaugh. Married Carol Lurlene Black, five children.

Sister Linebaugh is a former missionary at the San Diego Mormon Battalion Historic Site, Church service missionary, stake and ward Relief Society president, ward Sunday School teacher and teacher improvement coordinator. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Karl George and Lurlene Richardson Black.

Lee Squire Longson, 66, Mormon Handcart Historic Site, Martin's Cove, Wyo.; McCall Ward, Weiser Idaho Stake; former missionary at the Mormon Handcart Historic Site, bishop, high councilor, high priests group leader and missionary in the England Mission. Retired president and owner of Petterson Associates. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Wilford and Emma Squire Longson. Married LeeAnn Eliason, four children.

Sister Longson is a former missionary at the Mormon Handcart Historic Site, stake Young Women president, stake Primary president, ward Relief Society president and Young Women adviser. Born in Washington, D.C., to Verne Huntington and Margaret Jacobs Eliason.

Gary Francis McKinnon, 66, Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial, Sharon, Vt.; American Fork 14th Ward, American Fork Utah East Stake; former missionary in the Massachusetts Boston Mission, bishop, district president, high councilor and Primary teacher. Retired professor at Brigham Young University. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Francis Edwin and Emma Louise Merrill McKinnon. Married Linda Rose Kempton, six children.

Sister McKinnon is a former missionary in the Massachusetts Boston Mission, stake Relief Society president and counselor, ward Primary president, counselor and teacher, and counselor in a stake Young Women presidency. Born in Payson, Utah, to Elme Joseph and Caroline Moore Kempton.

John Christian Nelson, 66, St. George Utah Temple Visitors Center; Parleys 3rd Ward, Salt Lake Parleys Stake; patriarch; former counselor in a stake presidency, bishop, high priests group leader, Scoutmaster and missionary in the Northern California Mission. Retired ophthalmologist. Born in Denver, Colo., to George Elroy and Alice Taylor Nelson. Married Mary Ann Baxter, 11 children.

A ward Young Women adviser, Sister Nelson is a former ward Relief Society counselor and teacher, stake Young Women president and gospel doctrine teacher. Born in Murray, Utah, to Golden S. and Helen Myers Baxter.

Robert George Pedersen, 69, Oakland California Temple Visitors Center; Cottonwood 2nd Ward, Salt Lake Big Cottonwood Stake; former member of the Melchizedek Priesthood MIA General Board, high councilor, bishop and counselor, elders quorum president and missionary in the Australia Mission. Chairman of the board of Del Sol and former senior vice president of Franklin Quest. Born in Logan, Utah, to George P. and Wanda P. Pedersen. Married Catherine Barton, eight children.
