But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. — John 14:26
My younger brother and I had strong spiritual feelings when we were young. I loved extensive reading and learning from others who have great gospel knowledge through symposiums and institute. I'd often tell my brother about books and ask if he'd read them. He would always say, "I don't need any other books than the scriptures." I'd think to myself, "He's missing out. Some day when he has more time and money he'll be interested and read more extensively."
I moved away from Utah and we were both too busy to talk about the gospel much the past 25 years. Then a few months ago I attended Church with him and was amazed by the comments he made in Sunday School. I felt like Alma meeting the sons of Mosiah, rejoicing at their strength in the gospel. I wondered how he gained such great wisdom and understanding.
A few weeks later I was excited about something I read and sent him an e-mail to tell him about it. I found out he hasn't changed. His reply just said, "You might also consider this: John 14:26."
Truth filled my soul. I'll always love outside reading…but seeing the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom he's gained and how he applies it to his marriage, raising children, and to life…knowing it all came directly from the scriptures and confirmation of the Holy Ghost, has motivated me to study the scriptures more deeply and diligently and to seek confirmation from the Holy Ghost in all I read and do. — Lavon Huntsman Maiersperger, Brighton Ward, Ann Arbor Michigan Stake.
