Living by the scriptures

"Now they never had fought yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it." — Alma 56:47-48

One Fall morning in September 2002 I received a call from our daughter Amber who was three months pregnant with our little grandson-to-be. After an ultrasound and other tests the doctors had told Amber and her husband, Josh, that their unborn child had a cyst on his brain. They were told this could be a very serious condition resulting in birth defects. Amber was very scared. Later that evening Josh gave Amber and the baby a special blessing.

After getting off of the phone with our precious daughter, I knelt and prayed for comfort and a special blessing on our unborn grandchild. I felt impressed to open my scriptures for guidance and comfort. I opened the scriptures and found myself reading two verses in Alma, chapter 56, verses 47 and 48.

Our little grandson had not even been born and yet I knew he would have such a mother who would teach him about the Savior. I could feel how very special this sweet child was. My whole being was filled with warmth and peace. I knew that no matter what happened that all would be well with this special little boy.

Karston is now 5 years old and healthy and strong and very obedient to his mommy and daddy. How grateful I am for the scriptures that can give us peace and comfort during difficult moments in our lives. — Marsha McKneely Ault, Nacogdoches 1st Ward, Longview Texas Stake
