A memorial service for a 19-year-old Mormon missionary who died May 21 while serving in Chile was held Wednesday, May 25, in Fredericksburg, Va. Another service was held Friday, May 27, in Provo, Utah.
Elder Benjamin Taylor Jennings collapsed while on a morning jog with his missionary companion on May 21, and could not be revived, according to an obituary in the Deseret News. The cause of death was not known.
Jennings grew up in Illinois and Virginia and is survived by his parents, David T. and Emily Oaks Jennings, siblings and grandparents.
In his obituary, he is described as an accomplished artist and a “great missionary, son, brother and friend” who attended Brigham Young University for a year before leaving for the Santiago Chile West Mission last September. “Ben loved serving the Lord, the people in Chile, and the other missionaries.”
