King’s Singers to sing with Mormon Tabernacle Choir during annual Pioneer Day concert

One of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s most popular guest artists — the King’s Singers — will perform with the choir during the annual Pioneer Day concert held on July 22-23.

The King’s Singers, England’s six-man a cappella vocal ensemble, is acclaimed worldwide for its virtuosity, energy and charm. The group is also in global demand, touring regularly to Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australasia. Double Grammy® Award-winning artists, the group was honored in 2009 for its Signum Classics release “Simple Gifts” and again in 2012 for its contribution to Eric Whitacre’s “Light and Gold” album on Universal/Decca.

The concerts, “Music for a Summer Evening,” will be held in conjunction with community-wide Pioneer Day celebrations on Friday and Saturday, July 22 and 23, at 8 p.m. in the Conference Center and will be conducted by Mack Wilberg, music director of the choir, and Ryan Murphy, associate music director. The concert will be live streamed on MoTab.org at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 23. It will also be carried live over the Church satellite system and aired on BYU Television, both on that same date and time.

The King’s Singers performed with the choir in the 2007 Christmas concerts, four Cultural Olympiad concerts held in the Tabernacle during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and numerous Music and the Spoken Word appearances.

The summer Pioneer Day concerts featuring music by the choir and Orchestra at Temple Square have been a long-standing tradition.

Free tickets for the concerts are required. Tickets will be available on at lds.org/events, by calling 801-570-0080, or at the Conference Center ticket office. Admission to this event is limited to those ages 8 and older.

Standby tickets for those without tickets will not be issued. However, patrons are invited to stand by for last-minute seating each evening. The standby line will form at the north gate on Temple Square at 6:30 p.m. for the evening performances.

No tickets are required for the Sunday, July 24, Music and the Spoken Word broadcast, which will be held in the Conference Center at 9:30 a.m. Patrons should be in their seats by 9:15 a.m.
