Meet the new temple president and matron called to serve in South Africa

A new temple president and matron have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin their service when the temple is dedicated.

Leon Arthur Holmes, 65, Somerset West Ward, Cape Town South Africa Stake, called as president of the new Durban South Africa Temple. President Holmes’ wife, Elizabeth Anne Gibson Holmes, will serve as temple matron. He is an elders quorum instructor and temple ordinance worker, and a former Ghana Kumasi Mission president, stake president, bishop and branch president. Retired Director for Temporal Affairs for the Church, he was born in Cape Town, South Africa, to Arthur James and Irene Carr Holmes.

Sister Holmes is a ward Relief Society presidency counselor. She served with her husband as he presided over the Ghana Kumasi Mission, and is a former stake and ward Primary president, ward Relief Society president and ward Young Women presidency counselor. She was born in Oranjemund, South Africa, to Thomas Snowdon Gibson and Enrica Redaelli.
