Church meets with "Ratana friends" in Auckland

Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana, founder of the Ratana Established Church of New Zealand, visited the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City in 1925.

Over 90 years later, Church leaders met with leaders from the Ratana Church in Auckland, according to a Mormon Newsroom article.

Elder O. Vincent Haleck, president of the Pacific Area, referred to the Ratana leaders as "our Ratana friends" and told Mormon Newsroom they discussed "our common love of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, the people of New Zealand and the importance of families."

Elder Ian S. Ardern, second counselor in the Pacific Area Presidency, and Vernon Ruwhiu, a bishop, also attended the meeting.

"This has been an historic gathering for us as leaders of the Ratana Church," Apotoro Takiwa Kereama Pene told Mormon Newsroom.
