The social media accounts of leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints focused on three main themes this week. Each post served as a reminder that the gospel of Jesus Christ is all about peace, joy and love.
President Dallin H. Oaks of the First Presidency posted on Facebook Thursday, Aug. 9, with a reminder that one of the Lord's commandments for His children is to "show love and seek peace."
Recognizing that despite people's differences, most people genuinely desire to live in harmony with one another, the post shared a picture of Christ and stated, "It is important to remember that love of others and tolerance for their opinions and behavior is only one side of a two-sided coin. The other side is always what is true or right. One of these sides should not govern without companion understanding and practice of the other."
Only through obedience to the Lord and His commandments can the children of the Lord become perfect and "realize their eternal destiny," the post concluded.
On Tuesday, Aug. 7, the Facebook account of Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles posted about the importance of being joyful in the gospel and enduring to the end.
"It takes continuous effort to strengthen ourselves, to stay strong, and to have a joyful experience in the Church," the post reads. "Be grateful for the happiness and joy the gospel can bring into your life. It is not a burden."
The gospel is about joy, the post stated. But to endure to the end still requires effort. The post concluded, "It is our task in life to search for, find, and then live that joyful path."
The Twitter account of President M. Russell Ballard, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, posted a reminder on Aug. 7 that Heavenly Father knows each of his children individually and is aware of their particular needs.
"He understands the spiritual, physical, and emotional difficulties we face in the world today," the post stated. "In fact, they are all part of His plan for our eternal growth and development."
Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles posted a reminder for his regional Face to Face event happening this weekend in the Philippines. He and his wife, Sister Lesa Stevenson, will host the live broadcast event for youth. The broadcast will originate from Manila, Philippines on Aug. 11. Viewers can follow the broadcast live through Elder Stevenson's Facebook link.
