How Church News is removing 'LDS' from its web address, social platforms

Following the counsel of President Russell M. Nelson in his Aug. 16 announcement about the importance of using the full name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Church News has updated its name and online presence.

In keeping with the purpose of providing a living record of the Restoration, the Church News has opted to follow the counsel of the prophet by removing the term "LDS" from its web address and social media profiles as far as it is able. The Church News can now be found online at thechurchnews.com.

"As an official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are committed to following the First Presidency and using the inspired and official name of the Church in the Church News," said Sarah Jane Weaver, editor of the Church News.

During his October 2018 general conference address, President Nelson reiterated that the Church going by any other name is "not negotiable."

Prior to general conference, the Tabernacle Choir changed their name, removing the word "Mormon" from their website address and social media pages.

“We are at the forefront of the Church as far as brand recognition, so I knew that we would have the opportunity to change our name,” choir president Ron Jarrett told the Church News regarding the organization's name change. “It is an opportunity to follow the prophet. It is an opportunity to move the choir forward. It is an opportunity to be where we should be.”
