The Bells at Temple Square’s spring concert featured hymns, classical music and familiar tunes

From hymns to classical music to familiar tunes, The Bells at Temple Square’s spring concert, “Bells in Motion,” featured a variety of music in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday, June 9. The concert was streamed and is available on demand on The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square’s YouTube channel. 

The program included: “Prelude on Herzliebster Jesu,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Arise, O God, and Shine,” “Be Still, My Soul,” an organ solo of “Toccata” from Organ Symphony No. 1, “Retrospective,” “Crown Imperial,” “Fantasy on Kingsfold,” “Rhapsody” in B flat minor, “What a Wonderful World,” “Dizzy Fingers,” “Flashdance ... What a Feeling,” “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” the string quartet playing “Orange Blossom Special,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz” and “Them Basses.”

The 33-member handbell choir, led by conductor LeAnna Willmore and associate conductor Geoff Anderson, plays on two sets of English handbells and handchimes — one with seven octaves and one with 6½ octaves.

Organ solos were by Temple Square organists Joseph Peeples and Linda Margetts.

Willmore announced that the group will be performing at the Handbell Musicians of America national seminar in Irving, Texas, on July 14.
