Get a sneak peak of the Days of ‘47 parade floats from the preview party

The float preview party is Friday and Saturday

The Days of ‘47 celebrates when the first pioneer companies of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came west to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847.

Part of the festivities is a parade with many stakes invited to build floats around a theme. The 2023 theme is “Pioneer Stories … Values to Build On.”

The float preview party is Friday, July 21, and Saturday, July 22, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mountain America Expo Center, formerly known as South Towne Expo Center, 9575 S. State St., Sandy. Admission is free.

The Days of ‘47 parade is Monday, July 24, starting at 9 a.m. in downtown Salt Lake City. See daysof47.com/events/days-of-47-parade for information on the route.

Prior to the parade is a sunrise service at 7 a.m. in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square. Elder James W. McConkie III, a General Authority Seventy, will be the speaker. It is free, open to the public and members of all religious denominations.

July 24 is Pioneer Day to commemorate the anniversary of when the first company, led by Brigham Young, leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, entered the valley.
