Dates for a public open house beginning May 11, 2019, and a June 16, 2019, rededication have been announced for the Oakland California Temple, which closed earlier this year for renovations.
The open house runs from Saturday, May 11, 2019, through Saturday, June 1, 2019, excepting Sundays. Reservations for tours can be made online at templeopenhouse.lds.org in the coming weeks.
The June 16, 2019, rededication will be conducted in three sessions, with a youth devotional planned for Saturday, June 15, 2019, the day prior to the rededication.
The Oakland temple closed in February 2018 for renovations. It is the 13th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having been dedicated by President David O. McKay on Nov. 17, 1964.
It was the second of the Church's temples in that state, after the Los Angeles California Temple, which was dedicated in 1956. California is now home to seven temples currently, with an eighth — for Yuba City — announced by President Russell M. Nelson in October 2018 general conference.
The Church has 161 operating temples, with 10 new temples under construction and another 30 announced but not yet started.
Other temples under renovation include the Oklahoma City Oklahoma, Memphis Tennessee, Raleigh North Carolina, Baton Rouge Louisiana, Frankfurt Germany, Asuncion Paraguay, Tokyo Japan, Washington D.C., Mesa Arizona and Hamilton New Zealand temples.
