Palmyra New York Temple (facts and figures)

Location: 2720 Temple Road, Palmyra Village, New York.

Temple presidency: President Dale S. Dallon, with counselors George Rice and Bob Winebrenner.

Rooms: Celestial room, baptistry, two ordinance rooms, two sealing rooms. Specially designed art glass windows inside the temple depict First Vision. Cherrywood moldings are used throughout endowment rooms and hallways.

Exterior: Bethel White granite

Size: 10,900 sq. feet.

Architect: Dave A. Richards, Architect PC

Contractor: Okland Construction Co.

District: Serving 18,000 members in seven stakes: Rochester New York Palmyra, Rochester New York, Buffalo New York, Syracuse New York, Utica New York, Owego New York and Jamestown New York stakes.

Schedule: Opened April 7, 2000. Sessions scheduled by appointment on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. A decision is still pending concerning sessions during the Hill Cumorah Pageant.

Pertinent facts: 100th announced temple, 77th dedicated. Announcement made Feb. 21, 1999; groundbreaking May 25, 1999; open house March 25, 27-April 1, 2000, with 32,000 attending; dedicated in four sessions by President Gordon B. Hinckley on April 6, 2000, exactly 170 years after the organization of the Church by Joseph Smith in nearby Fayette, New York.
